Frequently Asked Questions
We know you may have a few questions before getting started. Our FAQs are here to give you clear, simple answers so you can feel confident, informed, and ready to take the next step.
What is the difference between a new company and shelf company?
The core difference is time. A new company is incorporated from scratch. There is an unavoidable waiting period. A shelf company, by contrast, already exists legally. It has been pre-registered and placed “on the shelf” ready for immediate use. The moment ownership is transferred — essentially the exchange of company information and documentation — the business becomes fully operational in a legal sense. Speed is often the difference between opportunity gained and opportunity lost.
What is a Registered Representative?
A SARS Registered Representative (RR) is the person whom the South African Revenue Service recognizes as having the legal authority to act on behalf of a business or other registered entity for tax purposes.
The Registered Representative:
Serves as the primary contact between the entity and SARS
Manages the entity’s tax affairs
Approves and submits tax registrations and tax returns
Receives and responds to SARS communications
Maintains and updates the entity’s tax information where required
For companies, a Registered Representative should be appointed as soon as possible after registration, and SARS generally expects the representative’s details to be provided within 30 days of the company’s registration. The representative is typically a director or another individual who has the legal authority to act on behalf of the entity.
The Registered Representative is responsible for ensuring that the entity meets its tax obligations and remains compliant with SARS requirements.
What is an aged shelf company?
An Aged Shelf Company is a Shelf Company that has been registered and maintained over a period of time. It carries an older registration date, which can enhance credibility. Aged shelf companies are naturally scarce and supply is limited to availability.
