Income Tax (ITR14)
File Your Company Income Tax Return on Time and Keep SARS Off Your Back
Submit your ITR14 annual company income tax return with SARS. Express Shelf Company prepares the return, files through eFiling, and helps keep your company tax compliance up to date.
ITR14 Annual Company Income Tax Return
Once a year, every company in South Africa is expected to file an ITR14 with SARS.
The return wraps up the financial year, declares income and expenses, and confirms the final tax payable. It is also the moment SARS gets a complete picture of your company’s finances.
The deadlines are real, the penalties for missing them are real, and catching up later can become stressful.
Express Shelf Company prepares and submits ITR14 returns for South African (Pty) Ltd companies, Inc companies, NPCs, and Close Corporations.
Whether you are filing your first ITR14 or catching up on years of outstanding returns, we handle the process.
What Is the ITR14?
The ITR14 is the annual income tax return submitted by every company to SARS.
It is the company-level equivalent of the personal income tax return individuals file each year. The return is submitted through SARS eFiling.
A correctly prepared ITR14 includes:
- Annual financial information for the year
- Income, expenses, and profit before tax
- Tax computation translating accounting profit into taxable income
- Schedules for capital gains, allowances, and reportable items
- Reconciliation between provisional tax already paid and the final liability
- SARS-required disclosures where relevant
Get the calculations right and SARS issues an assessment that matches the return.
Get them wrong and the assessment can come with a bill, penalty, or verification request.
When You Need to File
Most active companies need to file every year, regardless of profitability.
You need to file an ITR14 if:
- Your company has completed a financial year and the ITR14 is due
- You have outstanding ITR14 returns from previous years
- You need an up-to-date tax position before applying for a Tax Compliance Certificate
- You are applying for finance, selling the company, or closing a deal
- SARS has issued a letter about an overdue return
Dormant companies still need to file a nil ITR14. SARS does not remove the obligation simply because the company did not trade.

Step 3: We Submit Through eFiling
The return is lodged through SARS eFiling. You can review what is being submitted before it goes in.

Why Use Express Shelf Company for ITR14 Submissions?
An ITR14 is more than a digital form to fill in. It is a defensible tax position.
Wrong allowances, missed disclosures, or poor reconciliation can invite SARS verification and assessments that bite later.
The numbers go on record. They need to be right the first time.
Express Shelf Company gives you:
- ITR14s prepared with correct tax computations and clean schedules
- Reconciliation against provisional tax to avoid penalty exposure
- Catch-up returns lodged for outstanding years
- Practical follow-up if SARS issues a verification
- Support across industries, turnover bands, and group structures
A clean, defensible filing each year. That is the difference.
When Is the ITR14 Due?
SARS sets the ITR14 deadline relative to the company’s financial year-end.
The deadline can vary by company, so it is important to confirm the specific due date for your company.
What Is the Difference Between an ITR14 and a CIPC Annual Return?
The ITR14 is filed with SARS and reports company income tax.
The CIPC annual return is filed with CIPC and confirms the company still exists.
They are two different filings, with two different authorities. You need both.
My Company Is Dormant. Do I Still Need to File an ITR14?
Yes. SARS expects a nil ITR14 each year for active SARS-registered companies, even where the company did not trade.
What Happens If I File Late?
Late or outstanding ITR14 returns can lead to penalties, compliance problems, and blocked Tax Compliance Status.
It can also delay tenders, finance applications, and company clean-up processes.
What Documents Are Needed for an ITR14?
You normally need annual financial statements, a trial balance, income and expense records, provisional tax details, and any supporting information needed for SARS schedules.
Can Express Shelf Company Help With Outstanding ITR14 Returns?
Yes. Express Shelf Company can help prepare and lodge catch-up ITR14 returns for previous years where your company has outstanding SARS filings.
